Archcraft Products makes archway construction simple and economical

Cincinnati, Ohio, Jan. 25, 2009 – Home owners are using do-it-yourself (DIY) arched doorways to increase their home’s aesthetic appeal and selling power. Constructing arched doorways, hallways and entryways was once a challenging project that required a hefty dose of expertise and three to four days of labor; but these projects become easy, simple and painless installations using Creative Corners’ DIY Pre-Fabricated Arched Doorway Kits by Archcraft Products.

“A lot of new housing lacks character, and archways feel more traditional and appealing,” Cincinnati Realtor Amy Broghamer said.  “Having arched doorways can soften the look of new construction, or make a new home fit in with an older neighborhood.”

In the midst of a housing crisis where foreclosure filings on properties have increased 81 percent from 2007 to 2008, according to RealtyTrac’s U.S. Foreclosure Market Report, having a home with unique or special features can be the key to success in a faltering market.

“You don’t need to break your bank or be a home improvement expert to make your home more valuable and individualized,” Randy Reichelderfer, owner and founder of Archcraft Products said. “Creative Corners is for the average home owner, who wants to make their home more livable or sellable.”

Creative Corners kits simplify archway construction for do-it-yourself-ers, using pre-molded corner inserts made with a durable, lightweight, rigid urethane. The archway corners can be inserted in any open doorway or square corner using only a few screws, tape, mud and a little sanding; and then they can be painted or wallpapered like any other wall.

“Creative Corners kits are so easy, you don’t need to know anything about construction or home improvement: Anyone could do it,” home owner Jeff Richardson of Seattle, Wash. said. “Archways are great to fancy up a house, especially in a house with plain block corners. The Creative Corners product is an inexpensive way to make your house stand out.”

Before Reichelderfer invented his Creative Corners arched doorway kits, DIY archways were not user friendly. Traditional archway construction was a time-consuming process of using plywood to construct a frame, which required moderate carpentry skills, and then bending and fastening a strip of one-fourth-inch drywall to create the arch, and using flexible corner beads to secure it. Then the entire frame would need to be taped, drywalled and sanded.  Finally, all the archways need to match exactly and any differences in arch curve or angle would be easily noticeable.

“I wanted to do the arches myself, but all the information and traditional do-it-yourself instructions looked too complicated for me,” said home owner Tracy Knight of San Leandro, Calif., who purchased Creative Corners to finish off his living room. “With the Creative Corners kit, everything dropped right into place. Five screws, a little tape and compound, and then I was done.”

The kits cost between $55 and $130, and the return on investment is worth it, according to Reichelderfer.  ”I’ve had customers tell me that the archways helped them sell their house, or that they fell in love with their home again because of my product,” he said. “That’s the really gratifying part of my business: People are genuinely grateful.”

While arched doorways are an aesthetic plus in any home, they can also help increase the value of a house on the market. Arches make a home stand out and give it a unique edge on the competition in a slumping housing market.

“The best part is the wife is happy,” Knight said. “Happy wife, happy life.”
